Fire Ants

Red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) are a major concern in Texas, where they have become widespread since their accidental introduction in the 1930s. These aggressive ants are known for their painful stings, which can lead to allergic reactions in some people. They build large, visible mounds in lawns, fields, and around buildings, disrupting outdoor activities and damaging plants. Fire ants are particularly troublesome in Texas' warm climate, where they thrive year-round. Efforts to control and manage their spread include both chemical treatments and natural predators, but fire ants remain a persistent challenge for homeowners and farmers across the state.
