Scorpions

Scorpions are common in the Austin, Texas area, particularly during the warmer months. The Bark scorpion (Centruroides vittatus) is the most venomous species found here, though its sting is rarely life-threatening, typically causing pain, swelling, and discomfort. Scorpions in Austin tend to hide during the day in dark, sheltered areas like under rocks, logs, or even inside homes, emerging at night to hunt for insects. While their presence can be alarming, they are generally not aggressive and will sting only if provoked. To reduce the risk of encounters, it's important to seal cracks around windows and doors and keep the yard tidy by removing debris where scorpions may hide.
