Springtails

Springtails are tiny, soil-dwelling insects often found in damp environments like basements, bathrooms, and gardens. Typically measuring less than 1/8 inch long, they are easily recognizable by their ability to "spring" or jump, thanks to a unique appendage called a furcula, which acts like a spring and propels them away when disturbed. While harmless to humans, plants, and pets, springtails can be a nuisance when large numbers congregate indoors, particularly in areas with high humidity. They feed on decaying organic matter, mold, and algae, and controlling moisture levels in your home is the most effective way to prevent infestations.
